dont you find the word (reporting) an ugly word?
Do you have to have lived a totalitarian regime to understand that "reporting" is a way of supressing your freedom and put your safety and others in the hands of a superior something that in return will give you peace and comfort at the cost of "only" your submission.???
And dont mix it with reporting the police for a crime.

i am not "against" the TOS or whatever you may call it but i am not going to point anyone because i feel offended by a comment/question/answer...i will just ignore it, answer back aor just insult the person who said it (depending on the mood). On a internet level i dont really need anyone to fight my wars.

dougebee sorry but i could only read the first few sentences of your answer. it painfully reminded me of Germany in 1939...as the goverment could not control every corner of their country they put common people to "police" their neighbours and report whatever activities they feel where against the common well being...scary!

It's a public area, so it's not like digging into someones personal affairs or going through their email. I'm sure it's easy to forget that this is a forum for all ages and reminders might need to be made now and then. It's just a way to keep things clean, take off responses that you wouldn't say in a school classroom, or in front of your own kids, nephews, nieces...etc. It's not the police you know, I'm sure if you're familiar with totalitarian regimes you have to admit it's different to erase a few curse words than it is to refuse to allow journalists to report the news.

The entire basis of society is that we obey some type of social norms..sorry here in the U.S. ..those are that we don't curse and say vulgar things in front of children. That's what bars and poker games are for.

It's called following a Terms of Service. This is a private forum, with community guidelines( a TOS.) That's how ALL of them on the Web that are moderated are run. You agreed to the Community Standards before you came on here. I'm curious as to where the heck you're from, because most every country on earth has the Internet and Internet forums, with Terms of Service agreements.

If something is PRIVATE, the owner can set the Terms of Service however they see fit. Freedom of speech only applies in a government setting. Very bad argument on your part.

Yahoo! offers Answers and a number of other services for free, but does require its members to obey the Terms of Service. Yahoo cannot police its message boards itself; to do so would require huge manpower. As a result, and since the message boards are a form of community involvement, Yahoo looks to its online community to police and report posts that violate the terms of service. Ya gotta play by the rules.

If you're taking this to a wider meaning, government can only function with the consent of the governed. We install our representatives to uphold the laws already established, and create new laws as needed. Every citizen enjoys certain freedoms, as long as those freedoms do not impinged on others. Would you do away with all laws and societal customs in order to express your freedoms? Anarchy would be the result, and its own demise. If anarchy becomes the law of the land, there is no way to rebel against it; thus curtailing your freedoms in order to fit within an anarchical society.
