I have seen a few of these. Some women are so convinced they are pregnant that they get mood swings, breast tenderness, sometimes leakage, morning sickness and sometimes even a swollen abdomen. I know one girl who swore she was pregnant, then at her 12 week apt, they told her there was no baby, she was never pregnant. She didn't believe them. She hadn't had a period for a few months, and this was all caused by her mind. They ended up doing an ultrasound and blood test just to show her that she wasn't. She was pretty upset by it, but it's better then having her believe that she was. She finally came to the realization that she wasn't, and her period started the next week.

Most of it is due to you convincing your mind of something. You can really make yourself believe almost anything, and your body chemistry can change to what the mind thinks. Usually though, the body will finally decide that what you think isn't right, and will do what it needs to do anyway.

False pregnancies have been known to stop periods, cause morning sickness, and breast changes. I've also heard that some women even start swelling up.
For more info, do a search on pseudocyesis which is the technical term used to describe the condition.

A person who experiences an "all in your head" pregnancy can show all the symptoms of an actual pregnancy, from mood swings and cravings to lactation and swelling of the abdomen, as well as not having her period. It's common in women who really really want to have a baby; the mind wants it so bad that the body believes it.

In a medical book i have, it talks of females experiencing false contractions, and then believing they are getting closer. Also, women can believe their cervix is dialating (don't know if it actually does, but its amazing how the mind can make the body do things). The article goes on to say that these women often experience severe mental instability/insanity after no baby comes.

As long as you can convince your body enough to produce the pregnancy hormone it can go pretty far. I've heard of women getting the baby belly and actually feeling the baby moving inside of them enough to convince doctors that they are pregnant.

There have been several recorded instances of psychosomatic pregnancies...some go all the way up to labour pains.

Fun fact...some (admittendly rare) psychosomatic pregnancies have been in men!

yes and it can even go so far as to make a doctor in the ER think you are pregnant at least for a short time.

It can go as far as delivering a placenta. It happened to one of the people Freud treated. I think its called 'pseudocyesis' or something...
