Yes....a very good place. Knowing the economies of both Michigan and Houston very well, there are a TON more opportunities here than in Michigan with the economy the way it is right now. I hope Michigan can pull out of its slump but if I were you I would be heading for greener pastures too. Houston is enjoying a BOOMING economy right now and there are jobs aplenty.

I would recommend with kids that you live in the Houston suburbs. Depending on your job training and skills there may be a specific area you should consider living in, but yes, there is room for all here. Come on down!

Well, first you need a wife for that having kids part, but I won't give advice about that area.

Houston has a 4% unemployment rate right now. Jobs are easy to find. Just what do you do? We might have a job for you.

Check out this web site: http://www.houstonjobs.com/

There are good areas of Houston and bad areas of Houston. I would recommend staying out of the areas served by Houston Independent School District and you should be okay. Suburbs like Sugar Land, Clear Lake, Katy, and Spring are nice. The Woodlands and Kingwood are too, but are wayyy north. All of the attending school districts are good.

I live in the Memorial area, which has good schools and is very convenient... but can be very pricey. My wife and I are planning to raise a large brood and want to do it where we are.

Oh, don't worry about the heat. Everywhere is air conditioned.

Houston can be a great place if you are in the right area. The cost of living is very low. The suburbs are the place to be...less crime, more kids, better schools. I would suggest you stay on the west side of Houston though. The commute can be a little harsh but that's what you get with a high population city... just make sure your cars have working A/Cs.

I just relocated from NJ to Houston (Greater Katy) last October. Everything is going well for so far. My wife is from Michigan also, my inlaw still live there and they are saying Michigan is going down hill fast!.

If you like warm weather than I'd definitely recommend Houston for you. Houston is a world class city with all the amenities that you'll need. If commute is not a problem then I'd recommend one of the nice suburbs like Katy because of lower crime and better schools.

Right now the market is good in Houston! But (being from here) we go up and down. We are booming now because of the oil biz. But when the bottom drops, and it will, it drops hard and fast!

The weather is great in the fall and spring. Winter is cold and wet (cold being upper 30's - mid 50's) and summer is HOT and muggy! Serious it is freakin' really hot and muggy!

Plenty of good places to eat and play!

Houston is great. I've been to both Lansing and Houston. I say go for it. Here is a great website to check out: http://www.bestplaces.net. This site allows you to compare many aspects of cities.

Best of luck to you.

I like H-town--born and raised here. I suggest that you spend a couple weeks here, though, before making up your mind. Unfortunately, we have a lot of minorities--mainly Blacks and Mexicans. Also, there are a good number of Jews here. Usually, though, the before mentioned undesirables stay in their place and don't get too uppity.
