Less than 30% of women experience implantation bleeding.
Implantation bleeding isn't actually bleeding - it's just the discharge of a few drops of old blood mixed in with cervical mucus that may or may not have accumulated if any of the endometrial blood vessels lining the uterus happened to be slightly damaged by the embryo burrowing through them during implantation. We are not talking flowing, red, slippery period type blood here.
Be that as it may, if any implantation bleeding were to occur it would happen at about the time of implantation or slightly afterwards - either right before or just as your period would normally be due, but it would depend on when implantation happened and where in the uterus the embryo implanted.
I have been a midwife for 22 years and no one apart from medical professionals had even HEARD of implantation bleeding until just a few years ago, and now it appears that just about every women I treat these days expects implantation bleeding to happen to them and has a totally unrealistic expectation of what it should look like. I blame the internet!
Less than 30% of women experience it, and at best it's just a tiny bit of brownish or pinkish discharge - some women only notice it because they go looking for it - perhaps by placing a finger inside their vagina. I treated one women just before christmas who actually injured her own cervix checking constantly for implantation bleeding.

Hello honey. You may be beginning such an exciting time in your life.
I just wanted to say something to you about the implantation bleeding that you speak of. I have read about it here on Yahoo! Answers much more than I have ever heard it mentioned anywhere else. Most books and classes on pregnancy will not even mention it. It is really a terminology for any unexplained spotting that occurs before the time of your missed period. Whether or not there is such a thing as implantation bleeding is anyones guess. I carried four babies to term and never experienced such a thing. I have been involved in pregnancy counseling for a number of years and have never had a personal experience with such a thing.
For some reason, and it may very well be implantation, some women will spot just a tiny bit very early on in their pregnancy. This is painless bleeding and it does not increase, it is just a bit of spotting, maybe a bit of blood when you wipe but it is just a very small amount. It is not enough to require a pad or anything, it is a very small amount.
I would not bother watching for it or expecting it. It sounds like you were a bit late to have gotten pregnant this month but it could have happened. Remember that your most fertile days are from 14 days before you are to start your period, and four or five days before that. To explain it better, if you count the first day of your last period as day number one, and count on to day number 14 (if you have a 28 day cycle) that is the day you will ovulate. The best time to get pregnant is two or three days before you ovulate. This is because when you are getting ready to ovulate, your body is capable of keeping the sperm alive for up to 5 days! Contrast that with the fact that when you are not ovulating, sperm only live from a few minutes to a few hours. From what you said, if you are on a 28 day cycle you made love after you ovulated so it is rather unlikely that the sperm would have gotten there in time to fertilize the egg. The egg is only fertile for 12 to 24 hours after it is released.
Of course you could very well be pregnant. Anytime that you have unprotected sex you could be pregnant! The human body does odd little things all the time. You might have a 28 day cycle for years and then one month have a 25 day cycle and confuse everything!
All I am is saying is that it is best to wait until you actually miss a period before you think of being pregnant. When you are about five days late it is time to do the test. Some tests are reliable sooner but if it is negative you are just going to have to do it again later! So buy the kind that comes with two tests in it just for sure.
Good luck honey and I certainly hope that you get the result that you want!
Love and Blessings

Well, usually a womans cycle is between 28-30 days. If you are in this category, then implantation would be about a week to week and a half after you ovulated. So a little after your mid cycle point. More then likely, you aren't pregnant if you had sex after ovulation. Since the egg is usually fertilized in the fallopian tubes, and then travels to the uterus, then implants. The zygot (what they call the baby at this point) is only a glob of a few cells. But it won't implant if there isn't enough cells, or if it got fertilized after the egg was out of the tube. What you are describing is sex AFTER your ovulation time, and after the egg would have left the tubes.

Most women I know do not have implantation bleeding, I didnt with my 3 kids. I would say just wait til your period is about 5 days late (if you are late) then take a test. If your period does come and its a lot lighter or shorter than normal that could be considered Implantation bleeding. I know its hard, but its just a waiting game now. Hope you get the results you want!:)

usually implantation bleeding starts a few days before you expect your period. They say it makes you think that your starting your period early.....but your not. I just went through all that a couple weeks ago.
