I'm certainly not a fan of Italy, but they won the world cup, and there hasn't been anything of that much importance since, so they should clearly be number 1. If you want to get started on how bad FIFA rankings are explain how the USA, ranked #5 at the start of the world cup, and since then tied the world champions Italy, defeated higher ranked Mexico and Denmark, and lost only to very strong Portugal and Ghana, dropped to #30---25 places!!!!

first of all, Argentina dominated the world cup and Germany got ridiculously lucky in the game against them. Also when you beat a team like France you need a hell of a lot more than luck to win. Italy had a pretty easy run to the finals of the world cup but did beat France. Brazil however, played sub-par throughout the world cup and in my opinion doesn't even deserve to be in the top 5. Argentina has the depth right now and the best up-coming youth group in the world currently, i have a feeling they will rock the 2010 world cup because the basically the entire 2006 team will return with exception of Crespo and a few others

The FIFA ranking is always stupid. I think they had enough of havong Brazil in 1st that they had to put Italy but since they haven't played any game recently they had to choose Argentina

It doesn't really mean anything much. The FIFA and CocaCola point system changes all the time, they don't signify anything at all.
It doesn't mean much... I mean Italian football isn't the biggest deal even though they top the ranking.
