I believe that most computers sold today come with a 40 GB hard disk. That is a lot of space and is hard to demonstrate how big that is, but I'll try:
- One DVD disc holds at most 9 GB
- One 3-minute song in MP3 format usually occupies 4 MB (or 0.03 GB)
- One CD disc holds at most 700 MB (or 0.68 GB)

1 GB = 1,024 MB

Your HP laptop says it has 31.96 GB left because of the files in its hard disk (operating system, installed software, etc). You can always upgrade your laptop's hard disk if you ever need more space.

You should watch that free space closely if you tend to store a lot of things in your computer. If your laptop's hard disk run out of space, you might have problems while running Windows or other softwares (but there'll be no damage, so don't worry about that).

Curiosity: even though 1 GB equals 1,024 MB, hard disk manufacturers use a different scale: 1 GB equals 1,000 MB. That is, if you have a 40 GB hard disk, Windows will tell you that you have a 39 GB hard disk.

Computers that cost $300-$600 usually have 20-60 GB on them. The computers that range in the $600-$1000 pricing range usually have 60-120 GB on them. The $1000 and higher computers usually give their customers an option to choose just how much storage they want on their computers, like maybe 165 GB or 200 or even 300 GB for the super-high-tech computers for gamers that usually cost around $3000.

31 GB is still a lot. If your computer has 60 GB, that means you've only used up half of it. For example, my computer has 70 GB and I've only used 25 GB. I still have 45 GB left, so I haven't even used up a third of my total space.

One GB is 1024 MB. 1 MB is 1024 KB. 1 KB is 1000 Bytes.

Yes and no. It depends on how much you put on it in the future. It seems there is alot on there now since just about all laptops come with 80 or 120 gb.

1 GB = 1024 MB

It is enough if you are not going to install many huge softwares and download stuff. Otherwise even 120Gb may be less.

Lots of space on the drive.
1024 megabytes makes up a gigabyte. In something easier to think of, 1 gigabyte will store approximately 13 full albums encoded at cd quality.
