i am interviewing for a potential job tomorrow and want to know when the appropriate time to tell the interviewer about an upcoming vacation. I would only be missing 1 day of work (a friday). the trip is payed for and booked. i know it doesn't really matter but this is the first time since i was pregnant ( 2 1/2 years ago) that i have gone anywhere! i have been with my children everyday and feel like i deserve this mini break.
at any rate i am afraid it will detour my potential employer into thinking i am not dedicated or truly interested in the position- and i am desperately wanting this position.
will it effect my chances of getting hired? probably huh.
any input is appreciated- thanks

You should wait and bring it up when the offer is extended. But not to worry...I was a recruiter for years and that type of request was never any big deal. (especially just one day)

Enjoy your vacation :)

Once you have the job offer & are talking about a starting date, then you can discuss this. You most likely won't qualify for paid time off, but you can explain that the trip is already scheduled & ask to take an unpaid day.

tell them. any decent employer would honor the fact that you told them, are indeed concerned how it will look... but the fact is, you have a trip planned. take it. honestly, if this job is such that the measure of who gets it is anyone willing to be there every day, do you want it anyway? real jobs have real people (with lives)... don't sell yourself short.
Besides, your situation is not new or unique... be upfront.

you have to wait until 6 months or a year before you can ask for a day, or few, off. I also think you have to give 2 weeks notice in advance

Yes. Most employers want to know about your other obligations, so that they know if you will be a good match. If you get to that part of the interview, you can mention, it was planned previously and would be diffecult to reschedule.

Usually the employer will ask if there is any time that you will need off, that you have already planned. If not just make them aware of it. I mean its only one day, that way they don't schedule you to work, and they will like that you like to do things in advance, and schedule in advance. Trust me your employer will appriciate it.

Just tell them you will need the up coming date off for a previous commitment that you can not get out of.

I would wait until you actually get the job offer. Then, if you want to accept the job, let them know you need that day off. Shouldn't be a deal breaker if they want you.

Good luck!!

better tell him in the interview and asap. if it's only 1 day off I don't think they will care. Not that bad at all.
