Technically, you can force anything through - but the monitor won't be able to display it accurately. In short, the data you are pushing through to the monitor will be out of spec.

no there are a number of pixels on your screen that are built in and you cant make them more numerous and smaller. their there and they ain't going no were

if you try it you can damage your hardware. if you are trying to use hi-res games, occasionally there is an option to disable graphics acceleration which might help.
