Escaping. Learning. Cherishing the ability the writer has to describe things so clearly and full of texture that I can be right there, smell the smells, feel the atmosphere and visualize places I doubt I will ever see in my life. I love words but they have been a thorn in my side for as long as I can remember. I will never be able to tell a story so beautifully as someone else. That's what I like about reading.

I like reading because of the vast books etc. available to read-and on so many different topics! Also, there are novels, books of poetry, magazines, newspapers, fiction, non fiction, such a huge variety to choose from to read! My knowledge of topics is improved from taking time to read different articles in newspapers, etc., learn how to cook from cookbooks, and my imagination can be used when reading novels. I can picture the characters, the way I see them, someone else can see them the same way, or differently. Depending on each person's perspective on them. Reading is fun. It's also a help to know how to read, to follow written directions, so the cake, or dinner will turn out well cooked, not overly cooked, or undercooked. Take care.

The ability to 'get lost' in what I'm reading - the freedom to travel to far away places while ~
avoiding queues, security, travel sickness, insurance's, customs, paying for the air fair, bank charges and Tax's, unsavory / unsanitary loo's, and to walk away unscathed ~ in every possible sense ~ after all kinds of possible 'encounters.'

The view on other peoples lives (fly on the wall) and other ways of thinking ...and to not actually be involved with any of them or the outcomes while being the observer to it all.

It can be frustrating though, to be the critic of some one or some thing, and to not be able to engage in anything of it.

With Books, there is the freedom to pick the book up, put it down and walk away ~ and they need no batteries whilst they are pretty compact, durable and easy to transport.

Sash.

i love have loved reading since i was in second grade. at the age of 7 the first book i enjoyed was felicity in the american girl series then samantha....then harry potter....as far back as i can remember i read books and they have always calmed me down. its like i enter into another world and join characters while they try to solve their problems....its not like i actually think i am part of the story but if the point of view is written well enough i am prone to see from the eyes of the main characters, or be an invisible onlooker. i have a though life and when i read i completely forget about my problems. words and books make it easier for others to get along well with me too because when i have just read my book i am very social, and talkative. my

my favourite books are those that make me cry and leave me wanting more. i always wrote letters to the author to let them know what a great impact their novels had on me.

my favourite boks list:

-Noughts And Crosses by Malorie Blackman
-Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
- Kissed By An Angel By Elizabeth Chandler
-The Secret Life Of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd
-Lucas By Kevin Brooks
-Eva Underground
-Inkspell By Cornelia Funke
-A Great And Terrible Beauty By Libba Bray
-The Truth About Forever By Sarah Dessen
-Dragon's Bait By Vivian Vande Velde
-Black Boy By Richard Wright
-Looking For Alaska By John Green
-Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist- David Levithan and Rachel Cohn

Sometimes it's about escape from the pressures of real life, but it's also about getting to learn about new things, different cultures (as when I've read books like The Kite Runner or Memoirs of a Geisha) or times in history. And it's about empathy, about feeling we all, as human beings, have something in common, have the same struggles, feelings, joys, problems, whatever.

In the movie "Shadowlands", a student of C.S. Lewis said, "We read to know we are not alone". That says it all for me.

I am hearing impared so I dont watch much tv or movies. Besides, I have been hooked on reading all my life. It takes me into my imagination. Also as a writer, I learn from every single thing I read. Sometimes what I learn is what NOT to do, but I always learn something. C.

When I read, I feel I can escape the outside, I'm not judged or made fun of, I can be myself, let the words flow. Often, I find myself sitting in the shadows. I've noticed that:
Most of the time, reader prefer to be on the outside looking in.

It's a great escape, I travel all over the world and I go back in time. I get to pick which centuries I can visit. And I'm introduced to some pretty good characters. I love it.
