Yes it is playable on dial-up . It's not without a lot of head aches but I played for at least a year on dial up and still enjoyed the game. Large cities are a pain but not impossible to be in. I usually only had a problem with orgrimmar . The only other things I was not able to do while playing on dial up was do any 40 man raid , could do 20 man raid in ZG but problem is you cannot use ventrillo and play at the same time on dial up. And the other thing is Alterec valley is damn near impossible to play unless you stay a way from main area fights and just do the side quests or something . But I did still reach exaulted in Alterec valley on dial up when AV was previously much harder to get reputation on to get exaulted. All in all you can still enjoy the game on dial-up you just have to have some patience.

You CAN use dialup. The only thing blizz doesnt really support is downloading patches over dialup.

However, you have to avoid high population areas (Ironforge, Stormwind, Shattrat City, Undercity and Oggrimar are the worse offenders.) You can also help a lot by reducing the range of vision to the minimum so that there is no big data transfer going on constantly.

But do try to get broadband, because it just becomes impossible to do instances when having 5 people on your screen slows you down.

It's pretty horrible over dial-up. Just think of how many people/monsters can be on the screen at once, there's def going to be a constant lag. If you really want to test it, the best thing to do is go to your friends house and have him connect to your dial-up account (if he has a dial-up modem in his PC) and then play the game to see how it runs first hand. Hope this helps you!

I'm pretty sure WoW requires broadband to play at all. If it does run on dial up at all, it would be absolutely horrible.

Sorry.
