for make up, less is more....
if you really wanna wear make up, make sure that you have a trusty make up remover and cleanser to wash off any traces of make up and impurities at night before you hit your sack. never sleep with any make up on.
if your skin is good, meaning no blemishes, no uneven skin tone, no freckles etc, you can skip the concealor. and go for a very light foundation. if the main reason why you wanna start doing make up is to cover up imperfections, then i suggest that you invest in a good concealor and foundation that suit your skin colour. go to a make up counter(be it mac, lancome, kose, kanebo or ethusais) and ask the sales person to get the correct tone for you. liquid/cream concealor are better for uneven skin tone and undereye circle while stick concealor are better for pimples. if you're using a powder foundation, concealor up first. if you're using liquid foundation, concealor up second. you should also have a good loose powder to set the foundation.... brush on the powder using a powder brush after applying foundation in downwards motion to set it. you should also be having lipgloss. i personally like very light pink to clear gloss as it goes well with every other colours on earth... to protect your lips, apply lip balm before applying colour. and blusher is a must for radiant skin.... the colour of the blusher also depends on your skin colour... you can get the sales person to recommend you as well.. apply blusher using a blusher brush and not those pathetically small brush that usually comes with the case. that would only result in uneven application and it would look horrendous. apply blusher from the apple of your cheeks and brush outwards and upwards towards your temple. for those cutie pie colour like the pinkish-est pink, you can try brushing them horizontally and gradually to vertically down your cheeks all starting from the apple of your cheeks for a more dolly look... and finally you may wanna get a good mascara for volume, length or curl(whichever you are lacking in) and a good curler as well... eyeshadow please keep it to light/natural/naked colours first. if it's your first time and you try to play around with loud colours, the result may be undesirable. lastly an eyeliner would be optional in my opinion. well, coz i dont use one... i dont really like to define my eyes coz my eyes is not that small... and putting on eyeliner sort of make me look fierce. but you may try out white shimmering eyeliner for a ladylike and dreamy look.

I'd suggest go to a department store like Macy's to one of their makeup counters and ask a person there to match your skin to a shade of foundation, pressed powder, or a shade of blush. It's hard to do that on your own.

For beginners, if you just want light coverage, I'd go for a pressed powder for your face instead of foundation. You could skip this step altogether if you already have a great complexion and just want to add some color. I don't really use eyeshadow that much because it's hard to see the color since I'm Asian, but if you like you could get a neutral or beige color that works for everyday use and sweep it across your eyelids. Then, you could try lining your eyes with a pencil liner (not liquid), mascara (I curl my eyelashes with an eyelash curler first and then apply mascara), blush (smile and apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks with a bigger brush - not the kind that comes standard in the case), and sheer lip gloss with a bit of color.

Keep it natural and don't pile on colors that are too bright. I started experimenting with makeup at 15 and I must've looked horrendous in the beginning, but everything takes time and you'll have a better idea of what works for you with practice.

Make sure that you properly cleanse your makeup off at night and use a Q-Tip dipped in eye makeup remover to remove eye makeup.

Less is more. Really.

Curl your eyelashes and wear mascara. In my opinion this makes everyone look a ton better without trying too hard.

Wear lipgloss in a light pink shade. It's fool-proof because it won't ever look too dark (or too washed-out).

Blush brightens the face but can be tricky to apply. Use light sweeps on the apples of your cheeks. A great, universally flattering one is Benefit's Dandelion. You can find it on sephora.com.

You really don't need much more than that. A light, shimmery eyeshadow is nice to use and easy, also. Eyeliner is trickier to apply (you can look awful or slutty or make your eyes smaller quite easily), so learn with fool-proof stuff like i suggested, and you'll look hot in no time :)

The key to make-up is making it look like you're not wearing any. So natural earthy skin tones for your cheeks are good. Just a clear or slightly colored gloss is good for beginners and some light close to your skin colored eye shadow. I use bonne bell and lip smackers lip gloss and for eye shadow, I use that mary-kate and ashley eye pencil stuff and for cheeks... just a little bronzer brush from claires. I'm 12 so I'm somewhat a beginner too. A little fragrance is nice too like umm.. okay so if you go to walgreens they have like perfumes in an aerosol can and it says that if you like tommy hilfiger, you'll love babe or something and they smell really good and are about... 3 bucks or something. Any bath and body works makeup is nice too but a little pricy at times.

First off, find a skin care regime that works for you. Good make-up starts with good skin.
2nd - use a foundation that matches your skin. I recommend Mary Kay because it is a true match formula and has a guarantee. If you don't like the shade or formula, you can swap it out.
3rd- stay away from the trends for everyday and save for parties.

4th- have a make-over by a beauty professional. they can show you application tips.

Don't wear any! Natural is the most beautiful you will ever be! Make-up is just another word for a mask who hides who you really are. It's like you are ashamed of who you are. Don't waste money on make-up when it will only make you age quicker and you have to spend more money trying to get rid of wrinkles.
