My personal favorite is Elixir Polyweb strings. They are coated with something that makes them smoother (maybe even slicker on the wound strings, low E, A, D). This coating also extends their life, thus the time they stay in tune. I've tried Elixir's Polyweb and nanoweb coatings, Ernie Ball's, D'Addario's, Fender Nickel wound, and Gibson's made for Humbucking guitars. Most performers prefer Ernie Ball's because of the sound quality, however they have short life and mine lost their hold on tuning quickly. I like the sound the Gibson's produce with my 57 classic humbuckers, but I'm not that pleased with the feel. If you do a moderate amount of slides on the heavier, wound strings, the Elixir's will do your fingers a favor. I have sensitive ears and fingers, so I can't stand the feel nor sound of sliding fingers on a rough wound string. The coating on the Elixir's takes this annoyance away. They may be deemed expensive, but I think they're worth it for the long life and "buttery" feel they offer. Musician's friend (the link) offer's them at a decent price. Hope this was useful.

All I got is a red guitar, three chords and the truth. All I got is a red guitar. The rest is up to you.
