On all Fords 1992 to current, was when they switched from the bulky movable pole shoe type starter, to the lighter, more compact starter with solenoid and reduction gears for a quieter starts, that draw less amperage. Hope this helps.

I think it was the mid 1930's. I believe Ford stopped using the remote starter solenoid about 1996.

That started in the 1980s. One of fords badder ideas (Nyuk!).
They started using GM starters BUT still had the standard Ford solenoid still on the inner fender and they made a copper jumper piece on the GM solenoid so it still worked like a Ford starter. Smart, huh? Yeah right!~snort~chuckle~

I know that the 84 F-250 we got has the solinoid seperate form the starter, I'm thinking late 80's early 90's.
