It's only cheating if he lies. He should tell his wife his needs and if she is still unwilling to meet his needs, They should agree openly what the next step should be.

Well, Cheating & lying in any type of relationship is not healthy. I understand your 'friend's' dillema, but has he really tried everthing? His wife is an older woman and has probably gone through many changes. There are a few other options: Couples therapy, affection, foreplay. If nothing truly works, then he should have an honest conversation with his wife and let her know that he feels he needs to go outside of their marriage for sexual relief. Let her have a decsion in this matter as well, then he can take it from there.

nope, not excusable
there is no valid excuse for cheating, none
he knew what he was getting into when he married her, he knew that old people lose interest in sex most of the time, and he knew that she was older than him and there was a posibility that she would lose interest in sex long before him, but he chose to mary her anyway
this is just another show of some silly man wanabe that is not man enough to face the consequences of his actions and just wants to come up with whatever excuse of the day he can, sorry but its the truth, its not right
did someone forget about for better or for worse?
yea, i know, they are just words and they really don't mean anything now

No, infidelity is never excusable. If your friend needs sex that badly and feels that he needs to go outside of his marriage to satisfy himself, he should divorce his wife first. His wife deserves to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't use his sexual drive as an excuse to cheat on (deceive) her --- how exceptional is that excuse? She should be freed to find a man that she can trust.

No you shouldn't cheat..I mean your "friend" shouldn't cheat, he should start TOTALLY ignoring her, no more conversations, no more doing anything like movies, dinner, etc. CUT HER OFF financially, don't feed her, don't cloth her, and give her directions to the front door. Or better yet, move out on her. She'll be eligible for SSI and you can let the taxpayers take care of her..I mean your "friend" can let the feds take care of her.
She's the one cheating, even if she's not having sex with anyone else, she's CHEATING.

I think he should discuss it with his wife, and present it to her as an option. He needs to make sure she knows he would be careful, but that the lack of intimate time between them is truly a problem for him. Alternately, there could be a medical reason aside from her age that is causing it, and she may need to have bloodwork done to check on thyroid and other conditions.

Cheating is never excusable. He should have made sure he would be able to be with this women despite sex. He either needs to leave her or deal with it. That's why two people should really get to know each other before they get married. He could have sensed this way before the I do!

Cheating is not the answer! neither is divorce! he's suppose to be in love with this woman. Why does he need to be so insenstive! For heaven sakes she's 61!
Now on the other hand if she was alright with the situation than yea! for him... go for it!

Sex isn't the most important part in a relationship but then it is a big part.
He needs to talk to his wife about how he feels, and then they as a partnership should decide what to do.
Never cheat - there is always other options

If they have lost that much contact with each other they need to move own and either be separated or just get a divorce. if they want to stay together they should try somethings to spice the relationship up. It is their choice
