I am 6 months pregnant with twins. A boy and a girl.

I've had my heart set on these names since I was young. I wanted kind of unique first names with common middle names so if they would prefer to go by something a little more low-profile later in life they could.

My fiance loves these names too. But my family worries that they are too over the top and are very vocal about their disdain for these names.

These names aren't that unique, but I live in a very small (very hick) town. Are they really that bad of names or is this just an issue of personal preference?

lol. Hick town here too. I think they are pretty unique. And your fiance agrees so there's another plus. Name them w/e you think would suit them the best. I think those names are really pretty. And if they don't want to called their whole 1st names later, the boy can be called Al or AJ, and the girl can be called Vi. XD
Cuteness! Just do what you think is best and good luck with everything.

If you love them then go for it.

The names are very different but not unheard of. Once the babies are here the names won't be a big deal because all the focus will be on the baby.

Honestly, I like unique first names but I am not crazy about the ones you have chosen.

I think that Viola is a hard name to pronounce and I think of the neighbor on Mama's Family. Violet is easier to say than Viola. I don't like the flow either. Elizabeth Viola is a good name. :)

James Aleister sounds nice too. :)

Good Luck. SD

I think it is an issue of personal preference. I think they're beautifully unique names. And the common middle name idea was very smart. If you and your fiance love the names, then the rest of the family should respect your love for the names and the children they will belong too. Good Luck!

P.S. I myself am the girl of a boy/girl set of twins. My mom decided to pick 2 middles names for both my brother and I. We have always gotten second takes,("2 middles names??!!!") but I've always explained to them why I have them, my 4 uncles all wanted to be in our names blah, blah, and then the second guesser is always like "Ohhhh. I get it!" and then they just let it go. Just in case you're interested my brother and I's names are Cassie Danielle Patrice and my brother's is Micah Lawrence James. My mom still loves our names to this day, and has no regrets!

They are both awesome names!!:) I actually had Viola Sage on my list of names.. Some of my family members thought Viola was a little bit much too, so I told them they could call her Vi or Violet if they like - since Viola means Violet. Viola also is the "Cinderella" of all musical instruments. I got the name from Gwyenth Paltrow's role in Shakespeare in Love - in which she won an Oscar for!

Aleister is also very handsome name... Bravo to you! Please give those names to your babies - you are the parents and need to like the names.

Congrads!:)

The only thing i don't like is aleister. I don't mean to put you down or insult your choice of name, but especially for guys, we like normal names and as a guy i seem to notice when people have unusual names. I would pick a traditional name from your heritage, like sean or patrick if your irish or nicholas if you're italian. I like viola, very pretty name. I think you should switch up the boy's name, have an unusual middle name and normal, but slightly unique first name.

I think that they are very interesting names. Make sure that most people can say and spell the name correctly. I hated my name being mispronounced even though it was a simple name. They are your babies and you have the right to name them. If your family does not like the names, then tell them to call the babies by another nickname or a middle name (there is nothing wrong with James are Elizabeth).

aww, i love those names! they aren't over the top, they're actually REAL names.... James and Elizabeth happen to be two of my favorite names.... If they don't want to call the boy Aleister, they can call him Al for short... and they can call her Beth for short... but if you don't want them to do that then, obviously, don't let them.... i like your names, they are not bad at all, and it is an issue of personal preference....

Besides, they're YOUR babies and if you and your fiance like them, go for it! You're the parents, not them! You can name them whatever you want and they'll just have to deal with it.... and by the way, i'm glad you didnt pick rhyming names or names that started with the same letter! i'm a twin and i KNOW that once twins get older they want to be considered two seperate people, and that means that they will begin to dislike their names....

good luck! We twins can be a hassle!

An issue of personal preference. The names aren't hideous... They do sound like you are naming heirs to a wealthy estate. The names are professional sounding, and not all cutsie-wootsy so when your children grow up they will have grown up sounding names. Which is also an important thing!

Good luck! Choose the names which you like. Don't worry about your family. That's why a lot of people do not reveal the chosen name until after the birth. No one has time to talk you out of it like that.

How about a twist on a more traditional spelling for Alesister to make it Allistser or Allistar? Viola is a sweet, old fashioned sounding name you don't hear much anymore. James and Elizabeth are two old standards that remain popular. Neither is a bad name. You're their mother and it is your perogative to name your twins, especially if their father is in agreement .

My grandma name was Viola Valeria -Vi for short. And although I didn't appreciate it when I was younger, I do now and I am kinda-sorta naming my daughter after her, Vienna. I like Aleister, but would spell it Alastair. I'm assuming it is pronounced Al-a-stir. My family also is not shy about telling me that the names I like don't suit their style. I have a Dillen, Kalahan, and will have Vienna soon. I figure, this is my child, I like the name, who cares what others think. Good luck, they are beautiful names.
