www.hostelworld.com

Has most of all the hostels in the area.
If you go to the flying pig, make sure you know which one you want to go to, one is located by the beach a bit off from the city centre, and there is another one that is closer to the centre. But that place is usually completely booked unless you book WAY in advance. If you are really into partying, then that is a good place to stay. If you want to stay more locally, then that wouldnt be the place to go... I heard most people just end up staying at the hostel and never leave to visit the city which to me sounds pretty stupid! But hey, to each their own. But
www.hostelworld.com has it all. Well in the world of hostels. Tells you the location, has photos and has other fellow travelers reviews of the place
Have fun!!!!

You can go to yahoo and type in bargain hotels in amsterdam and i'm sure you will find plenty of useful information. Try hostels, as there are plenty in amsterdam. Also sites such as orbitz and travelocity can be of help.
