This is an issue that I'm torn on occasionally. In principle, no I do not support universal healthcare because I think that in actual practice it compromises the quality of the care received. We do have health care services for people who qualify so that the poor and particularly the old and young can be covered. However, I myself do not have health insurance right now. The problem is that I'm single and employed (though only in two part time positions so I don't have insurance through work, but dont' make enough for free care). I think it's odd that the only care i can get is for birth control, which I don't need. So emotionally would I like some free health care right now? Yes. Practically speaking I think our system will be fine; it just needs desparately some good reform.

It would all depend on who you are. If you're living on charity, welfare or can't afford insurance , sure.

If your job, gives health care or you can afford , nooooo. way.

Example, I'm a vet. I needed new glasses.
I went to the V.A. and was told to wait three weeks to call for an appointment. After calling it would be a month. I was also told I could not get progressive lenses , the ones I now where.

So that day , I called my primary doctor on my business health plan. They said come in there was an eye Dr. in the same building. I picked up my referral and was able to see them the next day.

I got my prescription that day an ordered my glasses.

Good question, I think the answer would depend on your social class. So depending on who answers this question the answers could be quite different.

To answer this question slightly different, I think our country (USA) will eventually get to that point regardless, as a majority of the population will answer yes to this question as the costs for health care continue to climb. What surprises me the most is the medications we buy here in the states, most of the rest of the world can get the same medications for less then we are paying for the products. I realize the drug companies are trying to recoup their R&D costs, but what happens then is the people on fixed incomes are forced into buying drugs across the border in order to be able to afford those medications. So I see change coming, just not sure how far out that will be.

I definitely think that a better health care system is needed in the U.S. But at the same time I don't think that free health care is the answer. I mean, with free health care, doctors appointments, surgery appointments, test results.. all would take much much longer to happen! But a solution does need to happen from our current system.

I'm not trying to be a smart *** but this is kinda a stupid question I can't speak for everyone else but I can honestly say I don't think theres a man or woman alive that would turn something down if it was free and didn't have strings or a hidden price tag.

We do have hospitals and clinics that provide some free services to people in need however I think that it would be great to have health care system that provides a higher level of care to everyone.

We basically have socialized medicine in this country already. If it wasn't, the doctors and hospitals would tell the people without insurance or cash to go home without treatment. Who do you think pays for it when someone doesn't have money? Society at large absorbs the cost, thereby making our system socialist.

No. From what I understand, the reason you had the SARS outbreak was because you had to wait 7 to 8 hours to be seen by a physician . . . all because of your free health care.

Sure its a nice dream alot of people could use it. But unfortunatly things in America dont work that way. Its not that the medical people dont care about the sick its that they care about money more. Too many companys would lose money and since thats what its all about it will never happen.
