Click start >click run >type in msconfig click on the startup tab then uncheck everything there except your anti virus and internet connection(if you see them there) . Click ok and your computer will restart .
If you do not have firefox get it now and use it instead of internet explorer so you dont get any more spyware http://securitynewsfromthenet.blogspot.com/
Get another anti virus program if your present anti virus program is not protecting you any longer

Well in this case you may run a DOS scan from your computer. It requires you to download a small file from the McAfee website and then follow simple instructions on running a DOS scan on your computer. It's a powerful scan and is designed exactly for the situations like the one you are facing.
I shall brief the steps here:
1> Download the latest SDAT files from http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/superdat.asp?region=us&segment=enterprise
2> If you get a license page, click on I Agree.
3> Click the link named sdatxxxx.exe (where 'xxxx' replaces the current SDAT version number) and save the file to your C:\ Drive.
4> From the Taskbar, select Start and then Run.
5> In the Open field, type command and click OK. A DOS command window will open.
6> Type CD\ and press Enter. You should now be at a C:\ prompt.
7> Type SDATXXXX.EXE /E C:\SDAT and press Enter. (Note: The 'x's should be replaced with the appropriate numbers of the file that was downloaded above.)
This will create an SDAT folder on the C:\ drive and extract the SDAT files to this folder.
8> Once the C:\ prompt is displayed again, please type exit and press Enter
9> Turn off System Restore as follows
1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and click Properties.
2. Click on the System Restore tab.
3. Put a check mark in the box next to Turn off System Restore.
4. Click the OK button.
5. You may be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes to restart.
Note: To re-enable the System Restore utility, repeat the steps above and in step 3 remove the check mark from the box next to Turn off System Restore.
10> Boot the Computer to DOS as follows:
1. If the computer is on: From the Taskbar, click Start, then Shutdown and choose Restart.
2. If the computer is off, turn the computer on.
3. When the opening splash screen appears, begin tapping the F8 key every second.
Note: On some computers, if you press F8 too soon you will get a keyboard error. If this happens, press the F1 key to continue.
4. The Windows 2000 (or XP) Advanced Options Menu will appear. Use the arrow keys to choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
5. Login to your computer (if necessary).
6. When the computer is finished booting, the c:\> prompt will appear on the screen.
Note: If there is anything typed after c:\>, type cd\ and press Enter.
7. Continue with the scan instructions below.
11> Scan the computer as by issuing the final command as follows.
1. At the c:\> prompt, type in cd sdat and press Enter.
2. Then type scan /adl /clean /all /report report.txt and press Enter.
12> This will start the DOS scan on the computer, it will clean all the viruses on the computer and will delete all of them.
This process is recommended by McAfee and is a popular support option when the normal scan fails. It is also doumented by McAfee at the link provided below.
You may also get additional details about the viruses by visiting vil.nai.com, which is an online repository of known virus database.

If this is any flavour of XP, boot into safe mode (F8 at the startup) and turn off System Restore. Then run a scan with your antivirus program. If it won't remove it, go to the symantec web site, www.symantec.com find the virus removal tools and look for the right one for the virus on your machine.
Once you are sure your machine is clean and virus free, go back and turn on your system restore and create a new restore point.

If you can get in the Internet, go to http://www.pandasoftware.com/ They will scan and disinfect your PC for free. Panda Antivirus has won lots of awards from PC magazines for their software. It's very very good stuff. I use it and never have problems.
Microsoft has a free program called Malicious Software Removal Tool. You can download that to your desktop and then run it:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
Other people on Y A swear by free software programs like CleanUp. They download it and run it every night before shutting down.
http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html
Other similar, free programs are SpyBot and AdAware.
Good luck.

What told you it was a virus? You could be just having browser issues or operating sysytem issues. Have you tried to do this with maybe another browser like Firefox and get the same result? Boot into SAFE MODE W/NETWORKING and do a scan here at http://www.nanoscan.com

Do the scans in Safe Mode, and also do spyware scans with Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE. Then download hijackthis from and run it with the "Scan and Save Logfile" option, then post the logfile on the hijackthis forum on www.castlecops.com or tomcoyote.com or email it to me so we can see if there's anything else that wasn't removed.

Hi. Boot into 'Safe Mode' by tapping the f8 key at bootup until you get to the screen that allows this. Try to scan while in safe mode. Hope this works.
