Brooks built his team based on character and chemistry rather than pure talent, which is not to say Cox didn't have the goods. Unfortunately, It was a pure numbers game by tournament time and the coach had to make a call. The Olympic rules only allowed for a certain number of roster spots and it's hard to argue the Brooks decision given the results.

If that argument doesn't hold water with you, try naming one forward who failed to make a key contribution during the tourney. They all delivered, from Johnson to Eruzione on down to Pavelich, Broten, Schneider, McClanahan, Harrington and the rest.
