What are some of the 1980s metal groups you feel should've gotten more success than was given to them?

Me I would say Heaven (an Australian metal band) should've been really big, they had everything from good musicians, catchy songs and alot of substance, former AC-DC bassist Mark Evans was in that band.

Another group I feel should've been huge in the states was Diamond Head, those guys were really good and I can see why Metallica and Megadeth was heavily influenced by Diamond Head.

Savatage had great songwriting, top-notch musicianship, and even when they went from a power metal band to a prog metal band writing rock operas and stuff were still amazing into the 90's, Not to mention an incredible live act too boot(saw them in 90 and 98 were great both times. Another band was Trouble great doom metal band with positive lyrics. There's actually too many bands that got less attention than they deserved because the record companies and especially Headbangers Ball at the time were really hung up on hair bands(I mean come on they played that Dokken Burning Like a Flame video for at least 3 mos straight). Agree with the Testament post.

Testament, they should've been as big as Metallica and they were a really good thrash metal band.

Blue Murder, they had everything from great musicians and the singer has a really good voice, they should've been huge.

Every Mother's Nightmare, they were a cross between of Motley Crue and Alice Cooper and they sadly came along the metal scene a little too late cause grunge was coming on its way by the time EMN released their debut album.

Anthrax and Sepultura were kind of big there for awhile, but I always thought they should have gotten more attention than they did. They were always treated more like second tier bands to the Metallica's and Megadeth's.

I agree with one poster's answer of Blue Murder. John Syke's guitar work on "Whitesnake" proves he has what it takes.

Another I loved was Tyketto. Great sound, just came around too late. Bonfire, Pretty Maids and Doro are others that have continued their success in Europe.

Would "Faith No More" be considered metal? Their best song "Epic" was pretty metal for that era when it debuted in late-1989. They should have had more radio air time. Great, talented band.

Bon Jovi, they should've been as huge as The Beatles, Elvis and The Rolling Stones IMHO!
