ok, so the motherboard i buy didn't have an onboard sound card but it comes with a soundcard that I need to plug it in myself. It is a ASUS commando, it comes with a PCI sound card I assume...

do I have to go into bios and set something before I can use the sound card? or windows will detect itself after I install the OS?

Shouldnt need to use the bios (or biso as you call it)

Windows XP will probably detect and install it itself - otherwise you just need to find the drivers from the CD (if it came with one) or from the net. If you need the net - try the webpage from whoever made the card - and then try drivers.com

If it is a PCI card or stand alone sound card then install it and restart..the puter should recognize it and install it...if Windows doesn't have the proper driver for it than the Found New Hardware Device dialog box should show and will look for the driver...I am sure you got a Install CD with the sound card...your drivers will be on that...just point the new device box to the cd/dvd drive on your puter and you should be good to go!
