Republicans and Southern Democrats, most of whom became republicans in pretty short order afterwards. Byrd changed along with the party, most switched. Keep in mind that it was signed by a Democrat and introduced by democrats as well, the only party never involved in favor of it was the republicans.
And the parties had switched over in the 1920s, Lincoln's beliefs line up much more closely to the democratic party in the modern era.

do you think maybe these people were smart enough to foretell how the civil rights act would screw up America?
unless you are plain stupid you should be able to see what it has did to America, it has caused our educational system to become one of the poorest in the world, even after pumping in billions of tax dollars,it has caused how many riots where another several billion has been wasted or burned, how many$billion has been spent on busing? and now look at the pride Americans have in their country, most could not care less if we were taken over by some despot out of Africa, our moral fiber has been shredded, and this only touches the outer edge, we came in 5th place in science, engineering, math, technology.to our so called prejudiced country's such as South Korea, Japan, China, India, and in 7th place in other scholastic exams, and many of our top professors have left this country to teach in a country where the students can read and write, most said they were tiered of trying to teach idiots to become engineers , scientist etc who couldn't even read or write, thanks to integration, where our colleges have had to lower our standards for admissions, so when you are
gloating about some real Americans think and know what ou are saying so you don't seem so stupid or is this another example of integration?
