it all depends on how you are using them!
Seems like you are only working the Bicep, remember that lifting and punching starts from the Shoulders and Triceps.
take a look here for more advice dude!
remember if you are looking to build your arms up fast try shadow boxing before and after your workout it helps circulate blood/oxygen to the new capillaries formed by the strain on your little muslce, helping the growth of more tissue , building your muscles, also remember to rest your muscle!

Look at it this way: when you're lifting dumbbells, you're only working a certain group of muscles. This is very different from lifting boxes, etc., and punching, because you use other sets of muscles for those actions. See if you can find and use an exercise machine that will pinpoint the muscles you need to develop, and work out a regimen using that.

When I lost weight and gained a lot of muscle... I didn't feel different either. I think it's just because you already get used to the feeling so it doesn't feel different. I saw improvements and my clothes were getting bigger on me, but I still felt the same. The only time I really felt the difference is when I go swimming. I feel like I am more aerodynamic in the water. :)

Yes working out with dumbbells is good because it better balances your body and isolates the muscles much better. Just remember that when you are able to complete a full set with the reps listed with a certain weight, then you need to add weight or you arent doing anything.

You will need more time and reps to feel real change. Muscle definition occurs more rapidly than the actual strengthening of the muscles underneath.
