George Gordon, Lord Byron. Because his was the template for all the angst-ridden, vampiric and down-right filthy writing ever to follow. Any 21st-century Goth owes their outlook on life to the bugger. George, I salute you.

I have always loved the poems of Robert Louis Stevenson. I still have my "Child's Garden of Verses" from about 40 years ago, when I was a child. My favorite poem of all time is his "Block City" from that book. I still have most of that poem memorized!
oh- I forgot to put Why.... The poems are easy to understand, and don't have a lot of olde English words, or phrases that are not used in our everyday life. The are child friendly and so very special to me.

Edgar Lee Masters. I adore Spoon River Anthology and how he created a whole cemetary of characters whose lives interweave and connect and how each of them has a story to tell. C.

My favorite poet is Emily Dickenson, because she was observant and from small everyday things she saw in them the more there was to see.

Edgar Allen Poe because his poems and short stories are dark and intresting. Most of his stories and poems like "The Raven" talk about death and make me feel afraid when I read them.
