the company is 5 yrs old and you are given 3 days of pto but one of them is mandatory to take the day after thanksgiving. is this leagal. if not what can you do about this?

There are no "mandadory" vacation days. The law doesn't mandate any vacation or holidays at all.

What the company offers as time off is entirely up to the company. If the company requires you to use your vacation time or PTO for a specific date, that's entirely legal. Poor form, maybe, but completely legal. If you don't like it and the company isn't willing to engotiate on the issue, your only option is to get a job with a different company that doesn't treat it that way.

I don't know that there is a mandatory amount of PTO given. I think it's up to the individual company. As far as making you use one of your PTO days for the day after Thanksgiving...that doesn't sound right to me. I think if you wanted to work and not use your day you should be able to..and then use your day later???
