I am in a 100 level Sociology class. For a mid-term take home assignment that has to be completed over spring break this is what the teacher gave us: There are 16 questions, each answer has to be 1 and a half pages. it's double spaced but it still seems outrageous to me. I feel to expect students to do this over sring break is crazy. I want to talk to the teacher about it, but I want to know if you think this assignment is acceptable. I'm not trying to by whiny, but can you honestly tell me the teacher wants to grade all that work? What stinks is we'll spend all that time working on it and she'll probably just glance at it.

She gave this to us right before spring break. I'm use to doing big assignments, that's not problem. I feel this assignment is pointless. Each question is basically asking the same thing. I resent when a teacher give you work that has no value in order to be able to put some sort of grade down in their book.

A one and a half page paper takes me about 30 minutes to do as a high school student. At a higher level, not only is a one and a half page paper do-able right out of a dead sleep, but the self-discipline to either sit down every night for an hour or find pockets of time during your break should be automatic. Did you get the assignment right before spring break or did he give it to you earlier and tell you to have it done right after spring break? I sounds like he gave you some sort of packet to be completed over several weeks that just happened to fall on spring break. I'd say you're being whiny.

hah..i wish i had that. THe friday before spring break, i was given a 17 question midterm......each question was 1 page (a few math questions that took multiple pages)....i got 6 hours to do it.
But yeah, i do get upset when they give us spring break homework, it should be a time to relax, but thats life.
Not an exam, but i had an 8 question homework assignment due the monday after spring break....all math..took about 4 pages per question I was truely sick a few days before spring break...sent an e-mail the saturday before it was due.....told the prof i was better, but wanted an extra few days.....he gave me an extension

I feel your pain, but that's just college life.
Next time before signing up for a class go to www.ratemyprofesser.com and read the reviews about the professor from other students. It can be a life-saver.

its college. professors give out crazy assigments all the time, but given that it is a take home assignment, it should be a cinch. You'd probably be able to finish in no time.

just be thankful you have a week to do it, and not a weekend, the longer you complain about it, the harder it is to actually get started and finish them, and you kno she is prob not gonna read all pages all the way through, so dont be afraid to bs a little, and take up some space

Two to three questions a night is not unreasonable. The idea that spring break is holy and there is to be no work is unreasonable.

Just do what everyone else does. Find a paper on the Internet and hand it in.
