The republicans, but against the wishes of his party

2007-03-18 15:09:48 · answer #1 · answered by Experto Credo 7 · 0 2

No one party. Lincoln, a Republican, issued the Emancipation Proclamation, but that was really spitting into the wind, as he didn't control any of the states over which it was supposed to have effect.

The 13th Amendment, which officially and legally ended slavery, was originally sponsored by 2 Republicans and 1 Democrat. It was submitted for ratification by Lincoln and was ratified during the administration of a Democrat, President Andrew Johnson.

To all of you historically illiterate victims of the revisionist regime. The Republican party of that day is the same Republican party of today. No slavery, no discrimination, equality for all men and women. Add to that, small, accountable government that does its job and stays the hell out of everyone's way. Likewise, the Democrats of that day are also the same as those of today. All you have to do, instead of just taking your grown-up, red-diaper-baby commie history teacher's word for it, just check it with the Library of Congress. Go to any public Library. Not the one in your propaganda-driven public school. But do your own homework instead of being spoon-fed everything you know by people who have an agenda to revise the history of our great country. You will find amazingly cool stuff in our "ACTUAL" history that beats the crap out of what they're shoving, or shoveling down your throats today. Back then Dems voted almost entirely across the board AGAINST the freeing of the slaves, which is why we went to war with ourselves. (Let's see Islam do that to make the changes THEY obviously need to make. Oh but in school they're teaching you kids Christianity: bad, Islam: good. Pluaahhh!) Decades later Dems also voted overwhelmingly AGAINST the right of women to vote. Fast forward to today and you see the Dems who say, "Oh, don't worry, all you minorities. We got your back against those evil Republicans who want you to be self reliant and control your own destinies. You don't have to burden yourself with freedom or liberty. We'll keep sending you your government benefits and you just relax and stay at home in your projects and keep popping out those future Democrat voters for us. Deal? Well alrighty then!"

So you see the real misogynists and bigots are the ones doing the lying about the other side. There's plenty wrong with the Republicans, but it's fixable. With the Democrats? Well, you know what they say, you can't fix stupid, and I'll add you can't fix evil. You kids yourselves a nice day, you hear?

Wait, does this mean that republicans aren't in favour of slavery? Someone tell that to Trent Lott! Next thing you folks will be against lynching blacks and beating up queers, and where will we be then?

Boy, that was a long time ago, wasn't it? What ever happened to that version of the GOP? It hasn't been seen for decades.
