hmmm okay so the prophecy clearly states "neither can live while the other survives"

jk rowling states that "she and trelawny 'carefully worded'" it.

maybe this means... that neither voldemort nor harry can live with "the other" survives.... maybe this "other" is not harry nor voldemort... maybe it's some other person...

any thoughts?

amazing thought, i think you should excuse a few of the inconsiderate ones who are not as enthusiastic about harry potter. It's not like you're wasting your time.

maybe it means that harry nor neville can live while voldemort survives, or your theory is always a possibility as well!
i cant wait for the 7th book!!!!

Very interesting theory! I (and just about everyone else) have been so busy focusing on what the prophecy could mean, assuming it was refering only to Voldemort and Harry. However, perhaps it does refer to a third person. Neville, maybe? Because Dumbledore said that he was the 'other' wizard that fit the description in the prophecy.

I agree, Harry and Voldemort both need each other and cannot survive if the other is dead, kind of like Mr. Smith and Neo in the Matrix.

Yes either Harry or Voldemort has to die. Personally I want Snape, Malfoy, and Voldemort to die. I also want to find out if RAB is Sirius's brother. Also I want to see Wormtail in this book as we didn't see anything of him in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. If Harry or Lupin die it will ruin the series.

I dont think the prophecy could refer to a third person. Neville would be a good guess, but he's not the marked man. Everythings gonna come down to Harry and Lord V. I also think that only one of them is gonna die. Harry is not a horcrux and will not sacrifice himself to kill Lord V.

I think just about everyone on earth figured out that either Harry or Valdemort has to die. All these questions arent going to make July come any quicker. In the meantime, go read Catcher in the Rye or Slaugherhouse Five. Expand your mind. C.

I hadn't thought of it that way. Interesting, but I don't think that's what it means.

I am bewildered as to "neither can live". They are both alive now. Maybe it means that neither can live to the fullest whilst the other is still around to put a halt to their plans.
