two primary rules of thumb with ground wires. if your grounding your overall system you ground from battery to block and from block to body. block to body in at least two locations for safety. Now if your hooking up an after market electronics grounding to the body is fine if the rest is done I previously mentioned.

the ground wire completes the circuit to the battery you need a battery cable and you hook one end to the battery ground and the other to a bolt on the motor making sure the cable will not get caught by the fan or belts
