our family was at Russ's restaurant(on Lincoln and US31) for dinner, when my mom came in she told the cashier that she wanted to buy a coconut cream pie, she said ok she'll put it on our table. we ordered our food and then the waitress asked is there anything else, mom said yes "could i plz have some small plates for the pie. the waitress said she'll have to ask her manager first. the manager came and told her if we eat the pie there he will charge us per piece. moms thoughts were he was trying to fill his own pockets rather than please his customers. btw it was my birthday and they wouldnt even do it for that.

That's ridiculous. Unfortunately it's a family-owned restaurant so there's not much you can do. Try to have a happy birthday anyway.

I'm assuming the pie you bought was a "To Go" pie deal.

If that's their policy, then that's their policy. If they only sell pie by the piece in their restaurant, then people shouldn't be able to bring whole pies to the table no matter where they bought it, even if it was from the "To Go" section of the restaurant itself.

I have worked for Marie Callenders and Bakers Square and when a customer bought a pie from us, we did not charge them per slice in fact, when it was someone's birthday, we would put a candle on that piece of pie at no additional charge.

well that doesnt make any sense. if its a sit down restaurant that has dessert on the menu, they shouldnt charge u per piece when u need plates for the pie. u need to just tell them that if they r gonna serve dessert as a course, they shouldnt charge per piece if the people need a plate. thats just ridiculous. dont go back.at least i wouldnt.

I never heard of anyone trying to pull that sort of stunt, and the restaurant probably never had either. So they had no idea how to react. But in their defense, I think the response you received would be standard policy in any restaurant. Hard to believe your mother would try to be that cheap for your birthday!

Of course not, it is a restaurant, not a bakery. Shame on your Mom for even asking.
