The cost of living is the biggest con. Next would be the population - it is crowded and busy all the time.

I love San Francisco, but the only thing I would like a break from is the cold. Everywhere else in the Bay Area was warm and sunny the other day, but it was cold and foggy in the City. Otherwise, I love SF - the food, culture, sites, architecture, and especially my little home. It's exactly where I want to be. :)

i love the weather and the liberal nature of the city.
i don't like
1) the tourists
2) the parking. there's not enough, and what there is is ridiculously expensive
3) the COST. good god the rent is expensive here
4) the general cost- the rent is high, the houses are expensive, the parking more expensive, the toll to get in is expensive. it costs a fortune to actually live here.
5) the driving is insane. all those pedestrians and bicyclists and one-way streets.
6) some areas have high crime (hunters point, tenderloin...)
7) being harassed by bums. not true for most of them, but some of the homeless people here are very aggressive.

If you don't like dense, urban city life then pretty much everything is a con; Traffic, parking, cost of living, and crowds, ect.. But the dense, urban nature of SF is also a huge appeal to many people looking for that lifestyle. I really like the dense, urbanity of SF b/c it makes it a real city. In my opinions the biggest con's about living in SF is some of the people there:
- pretentious, snobby, and rude people
- psuedo-intellectuals who think they know everything
- the most narrow minded, untolerant, hypocritical liberals you will ever find.
- people so obsessed with activism and politics to the point that they never seem to enjoy life or living in a great city
- all the wannabe anti-mainstream hippies who all conform to non-conformity.
-excessive normalization of sexuality. What city in their right mind publicly celebrates the opening of the city's first gay porn studio?
- and the weather is just horrible unless you like cold, fog, and wind.

Rents and homes are expensive.
Parking is a drag.
It gets crowded during the summer.
Sometime between now and 2025, there's going to be a very large earthquake.

many many. there are more disadvantages that there are advantages.
you pay a million dollars for a home in a terrible neighborhood , that is really small and dirty, with bad schools, lots of crime, and terrible traffic.
i sugest living in one of the surounding cities they are much better.
if you are a peace advocate or intelectual live in berkeley like me. if you are into drugs ( just kidding!) and crime live in oakland. if you are a young family;albany, above 60 yrsold; piedmont, emeryville for social people who have decent jobs and want to live in new apartments .
