Your only hope in life should not be to make it to the pros. I don't know what sport you're talking about, but no matter what sport it is, that is a pathetic statement. Even the huge prospects have big injury risks and face potentially losing everything. Even those who make it do not always get the big contracts. If you really had talent, you'd probably be sponsored by some sort of organization that would get you more the two 20 pound barbels.
What opportunities do you have? Well, let's see. You could join the military. That is garantueed income, social structure, and free college. Don't be afraid of dying. There are plenty of office jobs, etc.
If you're in high school or lower (which you better be if you hope to play pro sports) then spend the time you'd spend training at academics. Study! Then you can graduate and move on to community college, or if you get good enough grades, you can get a needs-based scholarship at a four-year school. There are a lot of schools that really want socio-economic diversity, and if abject need exists, it will likely be met somewhere.
I might be making presumptions about you, but do not blame the man or the system or whatever. Maybe life is harder for you than others, but that does not mean it is impossible. Success will only be more satisfying. If you have aspirations to be a professional athlete, make sure that you actually have the talent. Even if you're good enough to be recruited by a Division I college, you will probably not be drafted. There are only just more than 60 spots in the NBA draft and every kid who plays D1 basketball has NBA dreams. Go to school so that your life will move forward if your dream does not pan out. There is an extreme scarcity of jobs in your chosen field.

The only thing you would be able to gain is your endurance, which is good for sports, but if you do more than 20 reps per exercise set, you wont be doing anything at all to benefit yourself. Your best bet is to do body weight exercises, you can do many things to gain strength and endurance using just your bodyweight.
Just look up bodyweight exercises on the internet, there are many places that will give you a free workout plan using just your own weight. How do you think the military people get into such wicked shape when in basic training. Thats another thing you could look up, exercise regimins for the military.
Another place you could go to is www.discussbodybuilding.com, there are people there that are basically experts, theres bound to be alot of people there that have been in your situation. Good luck.

So what you are telling me is that you are poor and can't aford to buy weight and your hope is to make it to the pro's. Well if you want to make it to the pro's stop spending whatever money you have and whatever time you have on the internet. The internet cost money that you could use to buy weight and the time you spent writing this ridiculous question you could be lifting your barbels. I don't think that you are properly commited if you really want to make the pro get off the computer start taking roids early and beat up weaker kids and take there money.

Now since you said your only hope is to make it to the pros I'm going to assume you are in school right now. Also, I will assume high school because at the college level you probably wouldn't be asking this question. Ok, point being, can't you lift at your high school? They may not have much but my guess is they might be able to provide you with different opportunities to build your strength regardless of your sport.
