The gynecologist will do a pelvic exam on you. He has to make sure that everything is healthy in order to determine the cause of your lack of period.

I was 14 the first time I had a pelvic exam. I had not had my period yet and my mom was concerned, so she took me to the doctor.

I'm not sure how much you already know, so I'll say this like you don't know anything at all...no offense. I was your age the first time I went and he questioned me about my medical history, whether I'd had sex, date of my last period, etc. Then he gave me a breast exam to check for lumps or abnormalities. Then, he put a spotlight on me and used a speculum to open me up and look inside my "thingy" as you put it and used a used a long q-tip to swab my cervix for a sample...called a papsmear. It's uncomfortable, but it doesn't hurt. He also used his fingers to check to see if my ovaries were enlarged or normal and that was it.

In my experience, the exam rooms are always cold. My current Dr.'s spotlight is also a heatlamp and he warms up all the tools first. He's awesome! The first time is always the worst b/c you don't know what to expect, after that, it's no big deal. Not something you look forward to, but nothing you fear either. Hope this helps and good luck!

Well The Doc should only check you there If you are sexually active or have any other issues such as discharge or anything else out of the ordinary. Otherwise I dont think they start doing til like 18 which isnt that far either. They may just ask you questions about all the activities you do and whether or not you are under any stress. Almost anything can contribute to irregular periods especially when we are so young. They may just try and percribe you something to regulate your periods first. This has happened to a friend before and thats what they did.

They've started doing it younger and younger. I'd be prepared for a pap - especially if you're trying to regulate your periods with the pill or some other form of birth control. I got my first exam when I was 17.

Yes the doctor will examine inside your vagina to see if you are virgin or some other exam to find out why you are so late. It could be serious.
The can do a test to see if you are pregnant or not.
