microsofts firewall is as good as most at stopping incoming connections but it does not stop any out going ones meaning if a trojan was to get onto the pc it will be able to send out its info with no interference from the firewall but most other firewalls check incoming and outgoinf connections, i reccomend comodo firewall pro, it is i think the best free one available

Windows firewall is not a very secure product. I suggest using a third party software like ZoneAlarm Firewall. I have been using their software for the past four years and never had a problem with them.

Windows Firewall does not have the full definitions for viruses and Trojan programs that are active. When one slips through their "firewall", it's "goodby computer".
...you must get fully protected! -> with the ZoneAlarm Suite.
Microsoft's mickey-mouse "let's see if this will be accepted" firewall, and their virus check is downplayed on many reviews.

I am running Windows Fire Wall with no problems,on two laptops, also have Norton 2007 Internet Security 2007 which I also use along with MS firewall.Just about any well known firewall soft ware will work but use one that is updated regularly.
Hope this helps.
