i remember those days. i know, it really sucks.
both of my labors were induced, but the first one- the dr. told me to drink castor oil the night before- and when i showed up to be "induced" i was already in early labor. but you want to make it to 37-38 weeks so the lungs will be fine.
i don't know if this is your first, but while the baby is still inside, you still have your freedom. there is time for not a bleeping thing the first month.
one of my regrets was not doing a "belly mask" or even taking many pictures. right now you probably don't even want to think about it, but there may come a day when you miss being pregnant and have some fond memories of it (especially if you have a screamer!)
one thing that would have helped me immensely, was to prepare a few meals ahead of time and freeze, or put the ingredients together, etc.. but i was too busy going to the salon and shopping... when you are pregnant, you don't feel like a princess, but you are usually treated as one.. after the baby I felt fat and dumpy, lost all that extra beautiful hair i grew, and just felt gross in general.
back to the question- walking, swimming, whatever exercise you can do will help get the show on the road and possibly with a speedy delivery. i literally shot my first out at 9lbs and 12 oz. and i think its because i walked everyday up until the very end.
good luck and take care!
ps. get the epidural!

I am sorry you're so miserable. It's tough at the end. You can have a healthy baby at 36 weeks, I did, but a friend had hers at 36 weeks and lost her due to complications of preterm birth. My point is, you never know. You just have to stick in there for a few more weeks, even if it feels like forever. I wouldn't do anything just yet to help along the labor. Good Luck!

I had the same feelings when I was pregnant. I came home from the doctor's office crying when I was overdue. They would not induce me and I was so angry! But when my daughter finally came, she was littler than they thought, and the labor was so fast that it put her into shock and she stopped breathing. I know you want that baby out now, but I thank god every day that I did not get induced or who knows what would have happened to my daughter. The stupid nurse slapped Pitocin into my IV, without telling me, and I asked her what it was. She told me it was to help with the contractions! I told her my contractions were fine and to check the monitor. Sure enough, the monitor slipped off my stomach and the contractions weren't showing. It all goes to show you that the natural way is the best way - well, not all natural - I had an epidural :) but don't worry the baby will be here before you know it. Don't wish it's life away! Good luck.
Also, maybe you can write some letters to your unborn child to pass the time. Put them in a safe place or in his/her baby book to show the baby when it's older. Go out and walk, my mom made me do this when I was 40 weeks to get some fresh air and get things moving.

Just so you know.. I don't think it's selfish to want to get the pregnancy over this far along but I wouldnt try to rush things. I would talk to the doctor about what your options are to help you feel better...I'm 36 wks but my baby is about 7 lbs and has already dropped.. I'm already 2 cm dialted too... I'd like to speed things up a little also.. plus, insulin shots are no fun... !!

36 weeks is not term and it's very selfish of you to put your "whoa is me" attitude before the welfare of your baby. Do think when this child is born the sacrifice is over? Sorry, it's just beginning, this is the easy part.
Preterm, and yes 36 weeks is preterm, babies can have serious respiratory problems and end up needing special care when they're born. Pregnancy is a 40 week commitment, if you can't commit for 40 weeks how can you expect to commit to a lifetime?

i took castor oil and within 3 hours i was in heavy labor
wont hurt the baby and if your not ready to pop you'll just get diarehea
it's been proven that the baby induces the labor when they are ready to come out and castor oil is so gross it makes the baby want to get out asap
the other things that helped were
walking alot and my ob popped my membrane (ask yours and if they think your ready they'll do it) it's not painful at all and it's just doc putting finger between cervix and bag and seperating the two allowing for easier dialtion

Let your baby come naturally. You still have four weeks to go technically. Don't even attempt to self induce, it can harm you or your baby.
Let nature take its course. The baby will come when it is ready and that is what is most important.
