After the Great Meteor of 2012 bounces off the planet Earth, having wreaked worldwide devastation, will probably then land on Mars in 2013, where humans will have been trying to colonize since 2012.

Firstly, meteors land quite frequently - museums are full of them.

I guess you mean a big one, and someone has told you a story. There are no large meteors going to hit Earth in the foreseeable future. NASA is plotting the paths of all the Earth crossing large ones, and knows where they are going to be centuries into the future.

Also, in regard to large meteors or asteroids, they do not so much "land", as smash into Earth.

If somebody is shot, you don't say the bullet landed on them. Well, meteors and asteroids are travelling many times faster than a rifle bullet.
