I am working on a Liberal Arts degree right now in General Studies and I want to know for my electives what courses should I take that will help speed up my teaching process? Is there a site that lists the courses I need in order to become a NYS teacher? I've looked at the DOE site, but I didn't find specific courses.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks! I already took English(reading), beginners math, nutrition, psychology, intro to education and Art history.
Now this term I am taking sociology, statistics, computer graphing, American History, Children's literature, and English(Writing). For some reason I feel like I am taking the wrong courses. Would these courses be accepted into a teaching degree when I transfer for my Bachleors?

Thanks to both Lauren and the Teacher guy. Is the teaching process hard? It's crazy right from certification to...well actually let me just get there and then I'll worry about the rest later. I only 19, but I want to finish this fast so that I can start teaching. UGHGG It's very overwhelming by the way.

In respond to "curious", thank you for your respond. I love math, but even though I am getting As I don't have much fun with it. My favorite subject and the thing I excel in is English. I love reading and writing so much that I can't even describe they make me feel. I wasn't even born in the US, yet my writing is really great. I don't have a problem with writing essays, unless the topic is boring and I love reading books a lot. So your advice has really helped me. I'll take more course in writing.

Language arts, reading (there is a difference), math, science, social studies, and possibly some type of character education or health class.

Plus you may need to supervise lunch and recess; yet, I prefer to participate in the recess to reduce the accident rates.

Good Luck....

What are you mostly interested in? Math and Science or English, reading and literature? Generally in elementary schools you specialize to a point. There are some general subjects you will have to teach, but in all likelihood you and your grade partner(s) will divide the clases between/among you and will get to pick:
Math or Science or Reading or English or Social Studies.

So take electives in the subjects you're interested in teaching. The more you know, the more interesting you can make it for the kids.

Teaching is a blast regardless of the age. My advice is do so volunteer work or act as a teacher aide, so you have a sense of what it's really like and what you really want to do.

Blessings!

Check the Education school at your college/university. As a former teacher, I had to take courses like Foundations of Education, educational technology, classroom instruction, curriculum and instruction, Measurements and Evaluation(this is similar to statistics but goes into more detail on educational aspects) and student teaching definitely.
