This question is mostly directed at students living in milwaukee wisconsin, but not limited to.
I was just wondering what people would recommend, prefer, advantages, and disadvantages over one or the other. I am debating whether or not I should get an apartment or try out the dorms, it will be my first year, and I will be moving from about 2 hours away. I am currently not in high school, and basically can move whenever I want. I guess my car situation kind of plays a role in this decision also.. I currently have a car that is about to die any day, and I was wondering if it would even be worth it to get a new one (maybe a free one because my birthday is coming up), or just be car-less. SOO basically, would it be a good idea/cheaper to get a dorm, and have no car... or to have a car and live in an apartment.

For your first year of college, I recommend to ANYone to at least try out the dorms. It can be a great experience, and especially as an incoming freshman, it is an excellent way to get to know other people and really feel a part of your school environment.

That being said, after my first two years, I got a place of my own, and enjoyed that a lot more. But, I was very glad that I did live in the dorms as long as I did -- I would have missed out on a LOT of really fun, relationship-building experiences had I lived off campus then.

Good luck!

of course the dorm life always sounds great to incoming students, but personally, i rather have my space at nite, and when i need to study, maybe try and find a friend or two, that your close with, and rent out an apartment or something, you will have just as much fun, and your space when you need it, try and find one close enough that you could maybe walk if you had to
