Does ability to laugh at ourselves make life easier or it just covers up the coplexes inside us?

One excellent thing about being born and raised in the UK, is that we are the world's worst deflators of over-inflated egos. So no, I don't, and with every year I find it more difficult not to laugh at people who do.

I did develop a technique for getting things done many years ago. I put on a sort of theatrical performance that I think that this or that is terribly important ( even myself very occasionally ), but I have problems sustaining after a certain point.

Even my kids cottoned on a fairly early age and knew when to hit my 'giggle' button.

My advice nowadays is to relax, enjoy, and don't get too 'serious' about anything, just enough to get you where you want to go. Remember that frequently when we humans get too 'intense' about anything, that's when things really turn to worms.

I don't really take myself seriously. It's almost like i am two halves. I always think "Yeah i can acomplish this extremely serious goal i have set for myself!" and like two seconds later something else goes "Ha! Yeah, this is coming from the same person who puts spam on hard wood floors to make a slip and slide!" I think sometimes taking youself seriously is a plague, but sometime you do need to be able to do it. People who can't laugh at themselves ever are uptight...and people who laugh at themselves too much are insecure. There is a balance, i guess. And i am nowhere near the right side of the scale :]

If you can't laugh at yourself, Then you will never see the humor in anything you do. When you sit back and think of certain situations ( that may not have been funny then) and see your reactions or think of a what you could have done different, You should be able to laugh at yourself, because you are telling yourself " Is that the best i could come up with?". It is not a cover up, it a sign that you are growing and maturing. If confronted with that situation again, you can try you different approach and see if you have a better outcome.

I take my life very seriously, but that does not mean that there is no time for fun. I am in nurses training and that is something you have to take seriously or you will not make it. I am also a mother and I take that very seriously, protecting my children comes first and foremost! I do have the ability to laugh at myself (sometimes that is all i can do..lol) You can be serious and fun, it is a great combo!

Both. There are people who laugh and makes their life easier. There are also people who laugh to cover up. It depends on the personality of the person. The more important question is what does it do to you. Reflect to find it out or ask a professional one to find it out for you.

I take myself and this life pretty seriously. Its hard for me to push things aside, I dont know how. But I guess its a good thing, because denying things makes me feel like my life is false. I would rather deal with things as is and laugh because I am truly happy, not because I am trying to cover up things that would eat me alive. But thats just me...many deal with things differently.

Answer ~ as to whether I take myself seriously:

It depends on the circumstances, my mood, location, time of the day, who I'm with etc.

Yes, humour does help people hid away / deal with complex emotional issues, and there are a great many auto/biographies on people who have used humour as a way of earning a living which adequately demonstrate this.

'Sex' is another mechanism too ~ as is food, drink, anger, politics, relgion etc.

No, I don't.
I ususlly laugh at my little imperfections.
Like now for instance; I mispelt the word "usually" but I'm not going to correct it because I don't take myself that seriously!!

I try to take myself seriously, but I also try to take a joke. They do say that laughter is the best medicine.

i think ppl need to take themselves less serious. i most definatly do not...i always poke fun at myself. some ppl say i need more confidence though and think im putting myself down. but its funny and its better then getting frusterated.
