Is it normal for it to take more than 4-5 hours to complete a download update? I stopped using it for several months because it took too long and have been using it again for about a month now. I try to do all my spyware/ adaware/ antivirus updates at least 1x per week or more. But the Spybot always seems to take HOURS. Is this normal for Spybot? Is it still updating/downloading when it is not in the forefront of the monitor? Does it go to sleep if I am working in other windows? Does Spybot have to stay in the foreground to get its work done?

Sounds like it has been 'Got At' by something or another.

I would suggest that you uninstall it completely, then download new software and install that, then update it straight away - before you run a scan(in Safe Mode preferably).
Updates should be very quick - on a dial up 15mins at most. good luck

4 or 5 hours? Takes me 4 or 5 seconds to update, unless you are on a terribly slow connection, it shouldn't take that long at all.
If this is an older version of SpyBot, you might try downloading a newer version and see if it takes as long.

unless you have a bug that is targeting spybot, just cancel if it doesn't download within three min, close it down try again, if the sever is busy this will happen.

Up the top, there is a button (2nd from left), you need to click it and choose another update server. The one your using is just slow.
