They are trying to pass a law about school uniforms at the public schools in my city...I think it is ridiculous! I am not a kid - I have a daughter in 4th grade and a son who is a freshman in high school. I realize that they need to have guidelines about what the children are wearing at school but, uniforms?? Especially in high school...I think what they were is a part of thier personality and individuality. Plus I think it will make it even harder on the parents...shopping for the children's clothes would involve creating two wardrobes instead of one. What is your opinion on this? I say "NAY"!

As a public school teacher, I'm all for students wearing uniforms. Although my school system has a dress code policy, students try to sneak around it as much as possible. Uniforms would eliminate much of this. Having to enforce dress code takes away from valuable time teaching. I'm sorry the students won't be able to express their individualism through their clothing, but maybe this will give them an opportunity to show their individualism through their work, activities, or personality. When my school system introduced the possibility of uniforms, most of the students were not opposed. They were happy that they didn't have to wake up early to pick out their ensemble each morning. I think students would be more focused on their education if they weren't checking out what Suzie was wearing that day!

The whole school uniform thing is a debate that keeps coming back up every few years. There are a lot of good points to be made for school uniforms, they give the students a feeling of unity, make them all look so nice and clean, and I'm sure there were a lot of other good arguments, unfortunately the movie I was watching on them was black and white and narrated in German...

Maybe having a uniform could be a good thing for you (budget-wise) since your kid will be wearing the same set of clothes all year long and not having to buy her the latest fashion that she wants.

i have to say yay! personally, from my own experiences, i could never dress well enough to fit in. my mom sewed all my clothes, so i was a misfit or something. i would have loved to been able to put on the same navy blue shirt and khaki pants as every other kid in school!
we have a high school near us. they have the option of wearing navy or white polo shirts. not fancy or anything. just as long it's a standard navy or white polo..........with khaki pants............boys or girls. it works, the kids were negative at first, but, now they all seem to think it's good.

Seeing what the kids wear to my local high school kinda ticks me off as there isn't much. At least Uniforms would enforce decency...
