I have a school project in which I must mail someone and ask them questions about how they use platinum. Any suggestion of specific places, not things like "jewelry store?

Mail the Engelhard Co. of Edison, N.J. They use platinum in automotive catalysts and other catalysts for industry. Also, they sell platinum to make crucibles for chemical analyses.

You can also contact local environmental labs and see if any still use platinum crucibles in their work. No matter who you contact you need to contact a real person by phone or e-mail first. If you send an unsolicited letter, it will most likely go in the trash. Another company to contact is Strem Chemical.
