because when black people were used as slaves , back then the lighter ones stayed in the house helping around and the darkest one went outside to work on the country, also nowdays the lighter ones are closer to being white which is a beauty standard , btw really STUPID! i have seen black ppl being better and more beautiful than some white people are!! we all have same rights no matter skin color!!

I have never felt that way. But it goes back to slavery times when the lighter skinned Black slaves were treated better than the darker skinned slaves. But sometimes in the Black community lighter skinned Black people can be treated badly, they are sometimes treated as if they aren't Black enough because they are light skinned.

It's not just the black community. This mindset is also very well-known in Indian Culture. Lighter skin= smarter, better-educated, and higher of class. Yes, I know, it's ridiculous.

Back during slavery, the dark-skinned worked out in the fields, why the light-skin worked in the house.
People remain to be very ignorant, unfortunately.

I wouldn't assume that all people believe that, a lot of people I know like darker skinned males and females. They say, the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice!

er... can we talk about your "white community" for a second here?
Thanks! :)
So why do you guys have so.... much plastic surgies and your women all seem to get their hair color from bottles?
Why are many of you Tan-o-rexic, and why do you feel the need to spray on your tans???
Stereotyping is a ****** huh?
But to answer your question.... only ignorant miseducated black folks have that "slave-mentality".
It was instilled in slave, during the time of slavery that the lighter the skin, the better and more trust worthy a slave was.
Plus, light skinned slaves were more likely to work indoors instead of out in the field.(hence the term house-n*****?)

Its one of those vestiges of racism that we can't get rid of.
When I was in school though light skinned was going out of style. Brown skinned is the way to be around here.

Can you name any group of people of color that don't feel that way? Most do, so why are you focusing solely on blacks?
