No you should not have to say hi back if you are in a bad mood, dont know them, or just plain dont like the person sayin hi. It might be rude not to say hi back but it is more rude to tell the person "i said hi" when sumone doesnt say hi unless u r sure they didnt hear you but even then it could still be considered rude. The first rudeness of not answering is cancelled by the more rude " i said hi" so you are in the right... Two rights dont make a wrong but 2 negatives make a positive... thats dumb. Therefore you should not be inclined to say hi back if you do not want to... Thank you and Good night... THE END

of course I say Hi back, geez, if that was me saying hi first, I would hope the person would respond. I do however think it is rude to say "i said hello", they may have not heard you for many reasons. It sounds sarcastic and sadely we have more than enough of that in our daily lives. You might give a little wave hello instead and a BIG SMILE:)

It’s essential that you greet a dog as well as someone saying hi to you. it depends on the situation because someone can say I didn’t hear you when really they did. But you must take there word because they’re the only ones who truly know if they herd you or not. And if you say “I said hello” it all depends on the way you say it the tone and the eye contact you give the person. You can say I said hello did you hear me? or I said hello which comes off a bit rough.

Just smile, that's what I normally do if I don't know them.
No, not rude not to say hi and yes it would be rude for them to say that back to you if you choose not to say hi back!

I always say Hi back to everybody !
I seem to have this "TALK TO ME" tag on my forehead !
My daughters hate going anywhere with me because I get into conversations anywhere !
I guess it would seem rude though to say "I said Hello" if they don't answer ! Maybe their just shy. Why push it ?

Yes, I say hi back to them. If I'm feeling quiet, I usually just smile. I'm kind of shy in that way. If they got pissed at my for not responding, I think I'd be scared and run away. I think that's something too small to get worked up about.

Of course I would answer them, if they take the time to say hi, why not? It makes everyone feel a little better. Polite thing to do.

Where I'm from, everyone says hi to everyone. So, it would be very rude not to. Why not say hi if they say it to you? Its pretty easy to say back, doesn't take much effort or time.
