And how far does the doctor insert the finger into the anus? and also does it hurt lots? Also does it catch all the cancers that way or no?

No, I've had two and never felt a thing other than being full of air so don't plan anything for afterward. They put me out.

I think you are thinking of 2 different exams. A digital rectal exam only checks the prostate for abnormal lumps or swelling. To check for colon cancer, you would have a colonoscopy., which is done under anesthesia and checks the entire length of the colon.
