As a physics teacher I understand completely why you or anyone else would find it useful to tie a string to a tennis ball. I do it all the time.
Here is how I do it. First carefully cut a half inch long slit into the tennis ball. Be very careful when you do this and only do it with a really sharp knife. If you are under 15 have someone older help you with this.
Next, get a coat hanger and cut a 4cm (2 inch) section and bend it in half. Tie the string good and tight around the bent wire and then continue the bend the wire so that you have formed a sort of loop in the wire.
Do not worry if it is not nice and neat. The bent wire is going to be forced into the slit you cut into the tennis ball. To help you get the wire into the ball I find it helpful to use a pair of pliers.
Now you have a tennis ball tied to a string and you can twirl it around to your heart’s content secure in the knowledge that the world will end before the string comes out of the tennis ball!
I hope you have as much fun as I do.

If you thread the string through the tennis ball, you are going to make holes, that means air will get inside the ball and it will not bounce properly. So after making each hole quickly seal it with a rubber solution or similar type glue.

fruit netting bags putthe ball inside then tie the string to that and if you want extra security for the ball then thread the string around the ball through the net this will strengthen the net and hold the strings in place
hope this helps

Sailors always do it better. You want to weave a net around the ball. Look at some of the references to get some ideas. For extra security, put a clove hitch or reef knot at each intersection.
