It's not a matter of cost. You can usually check for free, but you need to know the county where the marriage took place. You don't need to live in a particular county to get married there. For example, lots of people get married in Las Vegas and don't live there (Clark County).
If you suspect you know the county, just call the public records department or check their website (some counties have the records online).
Good Luck!

There are a lot of people who are wondering the same thing. For every place you find that says it is free..if you scroll..nothing is free. I guess if you are willing to go to the town reports and pay a fee and if you don't mind if they know who you are you could.

look at the website for your local probate court. I looked myself up on the one in my area for free. It just says if you applied for a marriage liscence though, not if you ever actually went through with it or got divorced. However if it is in a small town there might not even be a website at all, you might have to go to the town where this person would have likely been married.

Check the county records, they are public records and can be viewed by the public for free, sometimes a phone call will get the information you need.
Good Luck,

I don't know that your local county courthouse would be "free" but that would be the ideal place to check it out.
And if you don't feel that you can't trust the person you are doubting, maybe that should be your sign to cool it off or slow it down and reevaluate the situation more closely.

Might want to try asking him/her....and if that is still not enough....find out who his/her friends are and ask them....more than likely, if you are not around any of his/her friends....chances are he/she is married....because they will not have you around their friends, because they would tell spouse.....you could also try following that person home, or even ask why don't we go back to your place. If he/she refuses...again chances are they have a spouse

you can go to the courthouse as many have said, however arent all marriage records kept in the county you were married in? I live in a different state from where I was married, where i live at now - my local courthouse wouldnt have my marriage records on file here...

How simple is that?? "Just ask them or check their finger" .. How stupid.. I'm sure you were like "duh.. they can take the ring off or just lie!" lol. But ya I have no clue hun sorry! Just take the advice from the other smarter people and go to public records to find out or hire a private investigator if you are really that curious! Good luck!

you'd have to find a marriage license; then search for any divorce filings...just finding a marriage license won't tell you if it ended in divorce. Why not just ask him/her? If you don't believe them or trust that they aren't, you shouldn't be with them.
