I am giving a process speech on "skin care"- how to a take care of your face. I can not think of any great attention getters besides the typical skin cancer/aging statistics. Does anyone have any ideas?

Visuals are always highly helpful. Find a dramatic picture of someone with skin cancer, perhaps. Or if you don't want to go that route, ask a few questions to engage attention. "How many of you wash your face daily?" "How many of you sunbathe?" "Who here knows someone with skin cancer?" Etc, etc. People like to show off, and generally if they know an answer to something--even if they wash their face twice daily--they'll be happy to raise their hands. And you should have their attention from then on, so long as you keep your voice full of inflections and speak loudly and clearly. Also be sure to start speaking within thirty seconds of reaching the podium or front of the room. It's very difficult to gain interest after that point. Good luck!

The best way to get attention is with a wonderful opening statement.

In my senior year of high school, we had to give a speech on some topic of our choosing. I chose Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Instead of using the typical first line that every other student used, I said, "Close your eyes and imagine. Your house has just burned down with everything you owned in it. For the next few weeks you dream of terrifying fires and burning flames. This reaction to the traumatic situation is known as PTSD...." I remember a few kids in the class actually gasped when I started.

I used a little more detail than that, but I hope that kind of conveyed the idea. If you can hook them with the first few lines, they'll pay attention the entire time.

Get some biore nose peel thingies. Not sure how to spell it. Ya know the things that tear the black heads off your nose? Pick a couple people w/ black heads to try them. Get a guy to do it and your teacher. Also get some visual aids, pics of skin cancer that sort of thing.

Begin by telling a story about someone who didn't take care of there skin, have the class wondering about what your topic is befoore you tell them. So tell your story and then end it by saying today I will be giving my speech on ......... thats how I completd all my speeches with stories in the beginning

DID YOU KNOW THAT 90% OF AGING IS CAUSED BY THE ENVIRONMENT? ONLY 10% OF AGING IS FROM NATURALLY GROWING OLD. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, MINERAL OIL IS THE #2 CAUSE OF AGING. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE #1 CAUSE OF AGING IS? THE SUN!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT 90% OF OUR AGING CAN BE PREVENTED WITH PROPER SKIN CARE REGIMENS?

Good luck! :-)
