What's done is done, there's no sense in worrying about it, especially since you would have just conceived the baby around the time you got the x-ray at your dentist.

In the future, unless they're doing an abdominal series, ALWAYS wear a lead apron! You're born with ALL the eggs that you'll ever have and the increased exposure to radiation isn't good for them. Always protect your eggs, even if you're not pregnant.

I would not worry about it at all. There is not much risk to the fetus from this exposure. The X-ray kilovoltage used in dental x-ray is so low that it cannot penetrate very deep into the body and the x-ray beam is collimated to a very small field size. ( the dental film is 1" x 1/2 " in size ) Advances in x-ray equipment, especially film technology, allow your dentist to get a good x-ray image using much less radiation than was previously required. A typical dental x-ray image exposes you to only about 2 or 3 mrem. Most dentists also place a "leaded apron" over the patient as an added precaution against scattered rays. Do you know if the dentist did a full planagraph, ( an moving x-ray of your entire mouth, top & bottom ) as this uses a slightly higher x-ray dose ?

Depending on how far along you are and your ovulation, you may have had the x-ray before implantation. I had an x-ray on my knee right before I found out I was pregnant with my third child. When I told my doctor, she said not to worry about it because it was so early in the pregnancy. But, let your doctor know and they will tell you if you have anything to worry about. Good Luck!
