Castor Oil ( and most self induction methods) have been debunked scientifically.
Castor Oil will just make someone sick and have to go to the bathroom.

Asia Carrera did (she was on my ivillage playgroup) when she was a few days overdue and it made her go into premature labor (meaning she was contracting, but her body wasn't ready to give birth) and she contracted for 72 hours! STAY AWAY FROM CASTOR OIL! It can cause explosive diarrhea and all sorts bad side effects for mama.

If you're wanting to induce labor, there are other things that you can try:
Sex (I know, you're laughing, right? But it started this, and it can end it! The prostaglandins in the semen ripen your cervix and can help you become 100% effaced.)

Red raspberry tea (this is also good for after birth, it helps the uterus contract back to it's normal size.)

Holding your urine (I know, sounds funny, but holding it can cause contractions, I found this out from my OB.)

I've heard that certain heavy foods can do it, like eggplant parmesan, in fact there's a restaurant in GA that guarantees that a pregnant woman will deliver within 2-3 days of eating their eggplant parmesan, or she gets a free one

I've also heard that pineapple can help too

Walking, lots of walking. Take a last trip to an outlet mall or a really big mall and walk through every store. Buy the last minute things you think you'll need for baby.

do not use castor oil unless you want a bad upset stomach. red raspberry tea, walking, and getting a massage might help. if there is a reflexologist in your area, give them a call but, they might want a note fron your doctor. that's what i did and my daughter came right on time.

DO NOT USE CASTOR OIL! It can cause the baby to have a bowel movement in the womb. This can cause all sorts of problems for mom and baby!

Castor oil can cause the fetus to have diahrrea in the amniotic fluid where the fetus will ingest it's own feces...this can lead to complications at birth, possibly Cerebral Palsy.
